More than 560,000 people in Arkansas are food insecure, and more than 200,000 children in Arkansas are at risk of hunger. Without wholesome, nutritious food to eat, these Arkansans are more likely to experience a range of health problems including malnutrition, cardiovascular disease, high levels of stress and an overall poor quality of life.
To combat Arkansas’ rampant hunger problem, volunteers assemble Give Fresh bags full of fresh produce to be distributed to families in high-need neighborhoods during each week of the BHealthy Farmer’s Market. In addition to the boxes, these families also receive education on how to affordably obtain nutritious food and healthy eating habits. Give Fresh: The Power of Food also supports local farmers by exclusively purchasing produce from Arkansas farms. During the first year of the program, more than 1,300 boxes were distributed, and that number needs to steadily grow to remedy the food crisis in our state.
In addition to Give Fresh bags, Baptist Health Foundation also shares our resources and programs with those in need through our brand new Give Fresh Mobile Kitchen, gifted to us by a generous donor. Custom built with the latest commercial cooking equipment, this mobile kitchen enables us to cook meals for families at risk of hunger and teach them healthier ways of preparing food.
Help give hungry Arkansans easier access to food and nutrition education through your donation to either of these outstanding programs.
"This program has meant a lot to this community and the people who live here. It's promoting healthy eating, and so many times people do not know how to prepare different foods. It's been a real blessing to the community."
